I believe it’s safe to say that my immediate family sees ADDICTION to GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH as the biggest problem I have encountered in ny genealogical studies!
Am I alone, or is this common?
Whether I’m alone or not, I have encountered some solutions to this problem of addiction. Here are some helps I suggest:
I. Make some goals that aren’t related to learning how to better do genealogy, to family reunions, or to your genealogical research. Examples: Practice the piano 1/2 hr., go outside in the sun without anything genealogy-related, Converse with family about something other than genealogy, read a book which isn’t related to genealogy, go exercise.
II. Write a list of 50 other hobbies which you’d like to have, other hobbies you’ve had in the past, and all other interests. Narrow your list to 10 favorites. Narrow that one to 3. Over the next month, make a goal to do each of those 3, at least once each. For example: Gardening, Sewing, or Hiking.
III. Set a daily limit for how much is the maximum time per day you’ll spend on genealogical research, the learning of how to do that better, and the planning of family reunions. For example: 4 hours a day, maximum.
I hope for all of the best for you in your endeavors! Let me know whether you have your own ideas to add. Tell me about your other hobbies!
